Cody began around the end of the 1990s in Oxford: Joe Boulter (voice, electronics, keyboards), Steve Jefferis (guitar), John Johnson (guitar, voice), Chris Tighe (keyboards). The project was pretty successful, with records played by the BBC on numerous occasions (by the legendary John Peel as well as Steve Lamacq), numerous concerts in London (Water Rats, Camden Falcon), and a few albums and EPs between 1998-2002 for Shinkansen, heirs of the more famous Sarah Records, including the posthumous collection of rarities called The Habit of Understanding.
Somewhere in the midst of the lo-fi and twee-pop canon, but with more varied influences, especially My Bloody Valentine and noise/based groups like Flying Saucer Attack, as well as Stereolab and the Krautrock of Neu! The constant feature is the melodic content of the songs, some great lyrics and "proper" songs.
The group split up in 2003 because we all lived in different towns by then, a different country in my case. Steve Jefferis is now one half of Warm Digits, who release their music with Memphis Industries.
All the the Cody albums are available on Spotify and other digital streaming platforms. The songs below are all my own compositions for Cody.
